Introduction
Hi, my name is Kayleen Cepeda, and I am an English major at Florida State University. I grew up in Orlando, Florida with a family of 5 and a shih tzu. Right now, I am studying Editing, Writing, Media, and deciding on a minor. I'm not sure what I want to do with my degree yet but I know I want to move out of Florida one day.
I have only had two experiences with technology in an educational setting that I can recall. The first was in middle school when the district finally put the rumors to rest and gave us all individual laptops. It wasn't hard to navigate since I was growing up with the emergence of technology anyway. But I remember the excitement that came with owning a laptop and learning to navigate the different ways we would be using them in and out of school. The second experience was when I took a computer class. It was just learning to use all the Microsoft apps and getting certifications in each of them. The class was cut short because of COVID but I learned a lot in the time I spent there.
Some resources I regularly use to support my learning needs and goals are the syllabuses my professors provide. I didn't really understand the importance of a syllabus until starting college and I found myself constantly referring back to it for assignments and class policies. Another resource I use is the computer lab in the CARE program library. The library is specifically catered towards students in the CARE program with computers, tutors, and study rooms we all have access to.
Hi Kayleen! We have the same major! I also plan to move out of Florida one day and take my studies abroad. I think it is great that our major allows for a lot of flexibility in study location and focus! I had a similar experience with technology when my districted high school incentivized us all with our own laptops that we could keep after graduation if we had a certain GPA. I agree that syllabi provide a lot of useful information that we tend to overlook in our younger grades. Also, I definitely need to learn more about CARE, it sounds really useful!
