Blog Journal #5

 I started using twitter in 2021 and I don't think I actually learned anything from it, I just found it entertaining and funny. I found tweets relatable and a way to people to throw any random thought out there for others to relate to. I started using Instagram when I was in 5th grade (which I probably shouldn't have). Instagram isn't my favorite social media platform just because I find myself comparing my life to others’ and it just creates this false sense of reality. From both platforms I think it is beneficial to be able to connect with all kinds of people from anywhere in the world and it can be an almost intimate way of getting to know someone and their personality type/interests. 

    I think the digital divide affects students' success in school because some students may have access to certain things on the internet or the internet in general, and then there are those who cannot. Some causes of the digital divide is accessibility, social class, and maybe even the kind of school a student attends. As a teacher I think it would affect the way I am able to present information or assign homework/assignments to students. And I was on the other end of the digital divide, it could affect the way I relate and communicate with my students.

Two software tools I would like to implement in my future classroom are Accelerated Reader and Iready. These are software tools I used when I was in school, and I actually enjoyed. Accelerated Reader is a program where students can take quizzes on the books they read and earn points. This program would be a great way to set up a point/reward system and encourage students to read. Iready is another online program for reading, math, and science instruction. It takes students through lessons and quizzes that help them achieve certain learning goals. I remember this program expanding my vocabulary and encouraging critical thinking skills. Although I would rely on these programs to teach my students, I will use them to help my students.

  I visited Millenia Elementary School’s class pages. They have one for every grade and I chose to look at the first-grade page. This page has the academic expectations of a first grader; what they should know before going into first grade, what they will know at the end of the year, what they will learn in each subject, and how to help the student at home. I think this is useful information for parents to have access to because it can help them prepare their child for the upcoming grade and make sure they are on track. I also really like the last section that highlights the ways parents can help their child at home with reading. The curriculum is always changing but this makes it so that parents know exactly what to help their child with and how.  First Grade - Millennia Es (ocps.net) As a teacher, I would use the different Web 2.0 tools we looked over last week. Blog Journal #2

     I did not really start using MS Word until college actually. Whenever we started to use word processing software in my K-12 experience, we only ever used to Google Docs just because it was easier to set up with our student emails and it automatically saves your work. I prefer Google Docs just because it is what I'm used to, but I don't mind using MS Word. My laptop already comes with it downloaded and set up for me, and I have it, so it also automatically saves my work, so either software is fine for me.      After looking at the website I was surprised to see how much information and advice it holds for educators, students, and other roles in the education field. It is important for educators and students alike to be able to keep up with the advancement of technology and incorporate that into learning and schooling.
